Surfside Recovery Services LLC was founded in February of 2016 which also included the formation of Surfside Structured Sober Living. South Jersey desperately needed services that were specialized to the needs of a specific population. The addiction industry is a multi-million dollar business that thrives on the failure of the hopeless – Surfside’s goal is to make that change and end the cycle of repeat customers.
Surfside Recovery Services shifted gears and moved from a for-profit LLC into a Non-Profit corporation in November of 2016. The founder sought for a higher level of accountability to the addicts and families utilizing the services provided. He did not want Surfside to be a catch basin for any and all potential problems, but instead wanted to be specific and focus only on addiction issues. Quality addiction counseling services can be difficult to find because most therapists are only general practitioners that will work with any type of counseling issue.
Surfside Recovery Services, to our knowledge, is the only addiction-specific practice in Atlantic and Cape May county and potentially all of New Jersey. By focusing on only one primary issue, our staff is able to provide a caliber of service unlike any other.
Our staff provides addiction counseling, interventions, case management and treatment placement for families and/or people suffering with addiction disorders. We personally visit over 50 treatment centers a year and pride ourselves in being an authority at providing proper family assessments to determine the exact needs of the family.
To provide the best addiction services in the Northeast while ending the cycle of chronic relapse.
Ian Koch, MS, LCADC, CAS
Ian Koch began working in the mental health field in 2003 at age 20. While completely delusional and ignorant to some of his own issues, he got his start working with teens at a young center while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in social work. He had a strong desire to help others but was completely unable to help himself. He had been in major trouble since age 12 and was even asked to leave Valley Forge Military Academy at age 14.
He continued to appear in courts around the east coast and eventually got clean on March 7, 2005. His desire to reach his hand out to others increased and he continued working with youth suffering from mental illness. Around 2 years sober, Ian moved into the addiction field. Ian obtained a Master’s Degree in Community Mental Health from Southern New Hampshire University and a Graduate Certificate in Pastoral Care from Saint Michael’s College. He is a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor in multiple states and has received his Certification as an Addiction Specialist from the American Academy of Health Care Providers.
Over the past decade, Ian has worked in various aspects of addiction treatment, including addiction counseling, intensive outpatient, residential, medication assisted treatment, detox and private practice. He has also worked in sober living, provided interventions, run family programs and case management for clients. His extensive knowledge and experience ignited the desire to create Surfside Recovery Services Inc. to provide a critical resource that the community lacks. Ian is adamant that the key to lasting recovery is based on participating in constructive action through a supportive and encouraging environment.
When Ian is not helping others, he can be found spending time with his wife or their dogs Wilma and Charlie, and you will most certainly find him kitesurfing and/or surfing at the beach year-round, regardless of the temperature!
